Sof Omar Cave
A river cave used as a mosque, east of the Bale road.
Sof Omar is a limestone cave system cut by the Weyib River. Passages run for kilometres. The local community has used chambers as a mosque for centuries, and the visit is both geological and religious. A local guide takes you in with a light. The path is wet rock, not a paved show cave.
The nearest towns with hotels are Goba, Robe, or further back toward Shashemene. Treat this as a day trip from a Bale base, not a place with a resort at the entrance.
