Konso

Terraced villages and carved grave markers, south of Arba Minch.

Konso is a UNESCO cultural landscape of stone-walled terraces and compact villages on the hills south of Arba Minch. Waga, the carved wooden grave markers, stand in the family compounds. The town market and a walk through a village with a local guide are the visit.

Sleep in Arba Minch and come down for the day, or use a simple hotel in Karat-Konso if the next morning continues toward the Omo. The road is the same one that serves Jinka.
